OFFICIAL VISIT Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron

 

Official visit of the DDGM Mary Lou Higgins PM

Westville Chapter No.24 welcomed District Deputy Grand Matron, Mary Lou Higgins to their October meeting which was presided over by Worthy Matron Sister Susan Martin.

 

Distinguished Guests welcomed were Past Grand Matrons and Patrons: Helen Connors, Diane Hayman, Carol Clark, William F. Clark, William M. Thompson and Murray Gardner; Grand Sentinel, Frank Cullen; Worthy Matrons and Patrons: Gale and Ken Langille, Century No.10, New Glasgow, and Pat and Don Batstone, Florence Fraser No.47, Sherbrooke.

 

The Officers exemplified the Ritualistic Work for the District Deputy, which included Examination of a Visitor, Balloting and Initiation Ceremony. Mrs. Higgins congratulated the Officers for their good work, and reviewed the Instructions of the Worthy Grand Matron this year. She also announced that she would be holding the District No.2 ESTARL Church Service on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Onslow United Church at 3 p.m.  She was thanked by the Worthy Matron and  presented with a monetary donation to the Special Project, The Alzheimer’s Society, in  honour of her visit to the Chapter.

 

Anna Horne was reported a patient in hospital and wished a return to good health; sympathy was extended to Dorothy Powroz, Grand Treasurer on the death of her father, John, in Halifax; and Mel MacGuire is now a patient in hospital in Tatamagouche. Congratulations were extended to Florrie Darroch, Glen Haven Manor, who will celebrate her 92nd birthday this month;, and Suzanne Hayman, daughter of Alfred and Diane Hayman, who graduated with a PhD in French Literature from Dalhousie University recently.

 

Chapter members will cater to dinners for the Westville Firemen on October 25, and Pictou County District Deputy Grand Master’s banquet on November 7. Any members who are able to assist in setting up, preparing, serving or cleaning up, are asked to contact the Worthy Matron.

 

The Chapter was pleased to have received the Past Matron’s jewel of the late Velma Mac Donald, for presentation at a later date.

 

A donation will be sent to Christie Peterson PGM of Hermosa, who along with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, lost their home, all personal belongings and family pets by fire recently. Mrs. Peterson is a native of Sydney, Nova Scotia, an Honorary member of this Grand Chapter; and is well known to many members in Westville Chapter.

 

Following the closing of the Chapter, the Farwell was given by the guest of honour. All gathered for a social time, and winners of the monthly draws were Arna Gardner and Mary Lou Higgins.

Elm Chapter No. 48

At the September meeting, Elm Chapter # 48 hosted a Friendship Meeting with all eighteen Officers having a Counterpart from another Chapter as their guest.

As well, the other members were encouraged to bring a guest. Seven Chapters were represented in the chapter room.
